STOP A WHILE AND REFLECT...          - 23/9/2015      <--Prev : Next-->

All at Edith Duly Nursing Home have been deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved 'Doc' Pretorius - a gentleman many residents and most staff members had known for many years.

During the latter part of the 1980's, The Lions Club of Matopos were instrumental in assisting in the building of our Convalescent Unit - a 15 bed unit intended to relieve pressure on the Mater Dei Hospital by taking on patients that no longer needed hospitalisation, but who would be at risk being at home. Dr Pretorius was the head of this unit at that time and from then until earlier this year, he was always available whenever called upon.

In 1990, Dr Peter Baker retired from his position as advisor to the Edith Duly Board and 'Doc' took over this function - virtually until his passing. His support of our Home was constant and unfailing and his attendance at Board meetings, exemplary. Although a very busy man with a bustling surgery of his own, he made time for all - our Home community and staff alike. His no nonsense approach and strict adherence to protocol ensured that prescribed treatments were always followed through.

Busy though he was, 'Doc' always supported fundraising activities and he made sure he took his place on Flag days, willing to shake his tin! On Christmas Day, he made time visit the Home to wish all residents and staff a Merry Christmas and to join in the fun.

A prominent figure in the Bulawayo community for over 50 years, 'Doc' is now re-united with his beloved wife Cynthia - herself a well known and respected member of the arts and music community of the city. We salute you 'Doc'- may your dear soul rest in peace.
