The word "drained" just does not cover it.. "Gutted" perhaps ? "Basket Case" maybe ? These words all add up to what your average Zimbabwean is feeling today and tomorrow and yesterday. Not only the Zimbabweans who live inside the Mother Country but also those who have gone far and wide to colonise the rest of the Wide World .... What has God in store for us ? Are we to continue for yet another four years with a madman at the helm of our country, or are we going to have the long awaited "Change" ??? It is an all consuming feeling, it preoccupies our every waking thought, it consumes our very being with an aching gut wrenching hurt that cannot, will not be cured except with that elusive "Change" Shops are emptier than before, roads are quiet except for groups of angry concerned folk, whose very next waking moment, whose next meal even, depends on the outcome of the Zimbabwe Election 2008. I cannot, will not write another letter, breathe another breath, say another word, until I know the outcome of the survival, nay the very continued existence, of our precious Country. The crisis of refugees and migration in Africa is a very pertinent and topical issue and one that affects so many countries on the continent and in the world. The remains of the various stations are there while portions of the track are still open. We would appreciate any advice on what we could do. Do we remove it entirely, redesign it or resurrect it? Once we have the fence in place it will be a great place to burn off those excess calories or simply to keep fit. Any thoughts or offers of assistance can be directed to estate@hillsidedams .com +++++++ At Hillside Dams 2 Public interest in the Dams has continued to flourish and large numbers of people came out to the Dams over the Easter weekend. The Lower Dam still holds water and is now home to a large number of cormorant, white-faced duck and teal. A fish eagle was seen on the Upper Dam but has moved on again. Work is making progress on the area invaded by lantana below the Upper Dam, while the Aloe Garden is steadily being cleared. Care is being taken so that the plants are not disturbed to ensure that we have a good flowering season later in the year. Several exotic, often highly invasive trees have been felled and we must thank Beaver Tree Felling for the donation of their time and expertise. Re-licensing of the tearoom is still with Bulawayo City Council and we apologise to all of those who came to the Dams over the Easter weekend hoping that something would be in place. We hope that this will be ready within a month. The Banff Road entrance will soon be transformed as a guardhouse is being erected. Our sincere thanks to MacAlisters, Davis Granite, Ihlosi Thatchers, MacDonald's Bricks and United Portland cement. In addition the old braai area has been restored and several additional benches and tables put in place thanks to the Ewing family. Various external well-wishers have pledged assistance and we are very grateful for their support. The modalities will be put in place so that we can use this to procure the imported components necessary for the security fence that we require. Please let us know if you are able to assist in anyway, wherever you are. Emailestate@ hillsidedams. com We are ever so grateful for all the support and letters of acknowledgement have received from members of the public. It is encouraging that people are again reclaiming this special place.
